Breakthrough drugs that help reduce obesity, including Wegovy, Ozempic and Mounjaro, have taken the world, especially Hollywood, by storm.
Elon Musk has lost around 28 pounds on the ‘miracle zero-gravity drug’, while NBA legend Charles Barkley revealed he’s lost 60 pounds.
Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Dolores Catania recently shared that she formed Mounjaro as a quick fix ahead of this month’s reunion show.
An obsession with slimness and physical beauty is nothing new in the entertainment industry, but few celebrities have admitted to using the weekly injections.
While some others sought to quash the widespread enthusiasm for what they believed to be essentially an eating disorder in a syringe.
With numerous celebrities including Chelsea Handler and Amy Schumer saying they have only taken the drugs temporarily, DailyMail.com investigated the socialites who have openly adopted them.
Shahs of Sunset alum Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi: Lost 30 pounds
GG started taking Ozempic in February and revealed it to her fans on Instagram. Here she is holding the syringe. In April, she posted a picture of herself after shedding 30 pounds
41-year-old GG told her fans in February this year that she had started taking Ozempic, also known as generic Semaglutide, which has the same active ingredient as Wegovy.
She originally opted to take the weekly injectable drug to shed a stubborn 11 pounds. A series of steroid injections she had to take for health reasons caused her to gain some weight that she found “very, very difficult” to shed.
However, when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise, semaglutide results in drastic weight loss. GG started taking the drug on February 5 when she weighed 137 pounds, adding that she “never” considered weighing more than 121 pounds in her life.
About three weeks later, she recorded that she had lost those 11 pounds. By May, she said she’d lost significantly more weight — nearly 30 pounds.
GG told Entertainment Tonight last month, “I see no reason to hide a weight loss.” [medication] or a cosmetic procedure, just talk about it because there are so many people out there who want to do the same thing or learn more about what you did.
“Obviously I didn’t look like this two months ago.” “So to suddenly lose almost 30 pounds, I would be lying if I said I stopped drinking and suddenly started exercising, as some people like to say. ”
Disclosing her own experience with Ozempic, GG slammed other public figures for denying they were taking the expensive drug.
She said: “I’m not sure why so many people are denying the vaccination.” You can all judge in the comments section below. But anyone interested in trying it should see my doctor.”
Tech mogul Elon Musk: Lost 30 pounds
Tech mogul Elon Musk has lost about 30 pounds using weight loss injectables
Tesla billionaire Elon Musk, 51, said last year that his secret to a “fit, toned and healthy” body was fasting, adding in a subsequent tweet, “And Wegovy.”
Wegovy is almost the same as Ozempic but was specifically approved to treat overweight and obesity, while Ozempic was originally approved to treat type 2 diabetes.
Prior to Wegovy’s approval, doctors in the United States were dispensing “off-label” Ozempic prescriptions for about a thousand dollars each.
Mr Musk has not consistently said whether the drug he was taking was branded Wegovy or Ozempic, but both drugs can lead to severe weight loss and reductions in body fat.
He said in October he’d lost almost 30 pounds with the help of the medication, combined with fasting and “not eating tasty food.”
NBA star Charles Barkley: Lost 60 pounds
Basketball legend Charles Barkley has lost over 60 pounds thanks to Mounjaro, a Wegovy competitor
Mr Barkley, 60, an NBA legend and Hall of Famer, said he lost over 60 pounds in six months after taking semaglutide competitor Tirzepatid, also known as Mounjaro.
The drug binds to receptors for two appetite-regulating hormones – GLP-1 and GIP – and sends signals to the brain that the body is full.
It also slows down the stomach’s ability to clear food, in part by reducing the amount of acid the stomach produces, leading people to feel fuller for longer.
It is different from semaglutide but has similar effects.
While tirzepatide mimics the action of two hormones, semaglutide copies only one – GLP-1.
Mr Barkley first revealed in May that he was taking the injectable along with a healthy diet and exercise regimen.
Mounjaro helped him lose 62 pounds after shrinking from 352 to 290 pounds.
Mr Barkley said on the Pat McAfee show that the drugs revived him: “I’m starting to feel like a human being, not like a fat ass.”
“My doctor told me there are a lot of fat young people.” “There aren’t a lot of fat old people, they’re all dead.”
“Real Housewives” by Dolores Catania from New Jersey: Lost 20 pounds
Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Dolores Catania said she started taking an injectable weight-loss drug ahead of her reality show’s reunion episode with fellow cast members
The reality star told Bravo superstar Andy Cohen earlier this month that ahead of the series reunion with Mr. Cohen, she started taking Mounjaro.
Ms Catania, 52, told Andy Cohen: “I wasn’t planning on looking taller than everyone else at the meeting, so I jumped on the bandwagon.”
She added that “none” of her co-stars aren’t also on weight-loss medication.
After the Watch What Happens Live episode, in which Ms. Catania Cohen revealed that she was a loyal Mounjaro user, Mr. Cohen received a spate of backlash for praising the housewives for their noticeable weight loss.
In response to the criticism, Mr Cohen said simply that getting the truth out to women is his job: “I’m trying to deliver the goods to viewers… I mean, if Dolores comes along and looks 15 pounds lighter, I have to figure out how.” it happened.’
Real Housewives of New Jersey star Margaret Josephs has lost 20 pounds
Real Housewives of New Jersey star Margaret Josephs has lost over 20 pounds but didn’t reveal what medications she was taking
Another Real Housewives of New Jersey star, Margaret Josephs, has also admitted that she has been taking an unspecified weight-loss drug for the past year to help her lose 22 pounds.
Josephs, 56, admitted without apology in March that she underwent weekly vaccinations with GLP-1 agonists, the same class of drugs as Ozempic and Wegovy.
However, she did not provide any information about which of these drugs she was taking.
Ms Josephs told Insider in April, “I take them as an injection once a week and it helps you lose weight and improves your metabolism.”
“Everyone says, ‘Marge, you look great,’ although some of my co-workers think some of my weight loss isn’t a good idea.” But I find it ridiculous. I think it’s what works for me.”
Josephs, who admitted she has lost 22 pounds since starting treatment, also said she has never been healthier in her life.
“I went to my GP who was like, ‘That’s the best your blood work has ever seen!’ I received the top rate for my life insurance. It was really amazing.’
Model Remi Bader

Plus-size model and TikTok star Remi Bader, 27, also revealed she had been taking Ozempic after being prescribed the drug when her doctor determined she was prediabetic, meaning her blood sugar levels were higher than normal, although not high enough to qualify for type 2 diabetes.
Ms Bader said she lost some weight while taking the drug but later regained it all.
She added that when she stopped taking the drug, she regained the weight she had lost and then gained more.
There is concern among both medical experts and users that stopping the drug will cause the pounds to come back immediately.
