Insane physical transformations that Hollywood stars go through
Cillian Murphy’s transformation for Oppenheimer is to eat just one almond a day. Hollywood has seen extreme changes, such as Christian Bale’s weight loss for The Machinist. However, Charlize Theron went to the opposite extreme after gaining 30 pounds for her Oscar-winning role in Monster, in which she played a serial killer. In a 2018 drama, she went even further: she gained 50 pounds by indulging in burgers, milkshakes and potato chips.
One of Hollywood’s most dramatic body transformations comes from Christian Bale, who lost 70 pounds for the movie The Machinist. In just four months, he dropped from 182 pounds to 120 pounds by eating an apple, a can of tuna and black coffee a day while smoking to control his appetite. Mr Bale has also gone the opposite way before, gaining up to 100kg for his role as Batman in The Dark Knight. Years later, he gained weight again through his role in the 2018 film Vice. Mr Bale gained 40 pounds while playing 46th US Vice President Richard Cheney. Despite the success, he later expressed concern about the effects on his health and vowed not to undergo such extreme changes again.
In 2011, movie star and rapper 50 Cent underwent a remarkable transformation, losing 54 pounds (a quarter of his weight) through his role in the movie All Things Fall Apart. Originally he weighed 100 kg, but in just nine weeks he weighed down to 75 kg. To achieve this, he only hydrated and walked on the treadmill for three hours a day. The motivation behind this drastic change was to authentically portray a football player with cancer, inspired by his best friend’s battle with cancer. Despite the difficulty, he was determined to achieve his friend’s appearance before he died, and the effort paid off by creating a powerful performance for the film.
One of Hollywood’s most notable yo-yo body transformers is Matthew McConaughey. In 2013, he lost 40 pounds in five months to play a character with AIDS on Dallas Buyers Club, going from 188 pounds to 135 pounds. His extreme diet consisted of consuming less than 500 calories a day. However, in 2017 he went the opposite way, gaining over £47 for the role of a businessman prospecting for gold in Indonesia. During this time, he indulged in his favorite foods, including cheeseburgers and beer. After that, he had trouble losing the weight. McConaughey’s body transformations are a testament to his commitment to authentically portraying characters on screen.
Chris Pratt is best known for his role as Andy Dwyer on the comedy series Parks and Recreation from 2009 to 2015. One notable change, however, came for his role in the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy. To prepare for the role, Pratt lost 60 pounds for four hours a day through a rigorous regimen of weightlifting, running and swimming. Despite consuming over 4,000 calories a day, eating the right foods made him lose weight. Pratt’s dedication has paid off, and he’s maintained his chiseled looks, securing roles like park ranger Owen on 2015’s “Jurassic World.”
