Character (958)
Chanel Caractere (958) eye shadow and blush palette ($90.00 for 0.42 oz) is a new limited edition multi-purpose palette with larger pans because each indentation can be used as both a cheek color and an eyeshadow color. The texture was a bit firmer compared to Chanel’s eyeshadows but denser than the blush range, I felt it was the right mix to work well for both uses.

formula overview

The formula is said to work for both eyes and cheeks, and no specific claims were made about the formula — it sounded “versatile” and could be “blended” to “tonuate” the effect, while also being described as having effects to generate, which range from “subtle to powerful”.
In general, the texture of the formula was firmer, denser; not to the point where it was stiff, but you’d need a moderately dense cheek brush for more coverage. I think the texture made it suitable for both eyes and cheeks as it was easy to go in with an eye brush and pick up enough color as an eyeshadow, yet it didn’t feel like pigment overload on a cheek brush. I also felt that the pans were a bit stiffer brand new but softened after a single use.
The pigmentation was mostly semi-opaque to opaque, but blendable, making it easy to work with on cheeks or eyes. I found the formula worked really well on the skin and had a nice diffused and smoothing effect with minimal effort. Most shades lasted me between eight and nine hours before showing any signs of fading (whether as eyeshadow or cheek tint).

- Evenly applied, well blended, lay well on the skin
- Long-lasting (8 hours before fading)
